Sekisui DLJM Molding Private Limited (SDMPL), the joint venture company between Dipty Lal Judge Mal Pvt Ltd in India and Sekisui Chemical Co., Ltd. in Japan today inaugurated its Greenfield plant in Chennai. Build at an investment of Rs 30 crore to support India Yamaha Motor, this is the third plant of SDMPL and is located at the vehicle maker’s vendor park.
The plant was inaugurated by Takashi Terabayashi, Managing Director – India Yamaha Motor Private Limited along with officials from SDMPL.
The CEO of SDMPL, Tadahiko Yoshioka said the plant has been constructed in a 15,000 square meters plot with a built up area covering half the size of the plot. At present the company has installed nine moulding machines and the constructed space can accommodate a total of 20 machines. With the space available the company can enhance capacity by four folds of the current volumes.
Currently the company supplies around 20 parts to the vehicle manufacturers for its motorcycles and scooter models. Gradually it will increase the part numbers to 60. “Our capacity ramp up is planed based on India Yamaha,” he said.
At present India Yamaha makes around 400 vehicle per day and it hopes increase volumes soon. Alongside SDMPL will also match its supplies, he said. The parts supplied by SDMPL are painted by India Yamaha, as the vehicle manufacturer has spare painting capacity. Once the OEM increase vehicle production capacity, SDMPL will have a chance to supply painted plastic parts. “We are planning to infuse additional funds and the total investments will touch Rs 100 crore in Chennai plant in the next three years. This will be for commissioning additional moulding machines and paint shop,” he said.
SDMPL’s Greater Noida plant supplies painted plastic parts with some value addition like adding decals and some other smaller components. Currently about 50 percent of the plastic parts requirements are supported by SDMPL. Interestingly, Sekisui Techno Molding Co., Ltd. supports 30 percent of Yamaha’s requirement in Japan.
Both Greater Noida and Tapukara plants of SDMPL have integrated facilities to support India Yamaha, HMSI, Suzuki and Denso (Cockpit module supplier to Honda Cars India) in fully finished condition. Going forward SDMPL plans to expand its product and client portfolios as well. “At present we are in talks with few customers in passenger car segment. In future; we hope to look at supplying to commercial vehicle segment also,” he said.
