The two-day event saw participation from about 200 suppliers from across India. The event witnessed the presence of top leadership from all the OEMs present in Gujarat. Top management from several OEMs including Maruti, Tata Motors, Ford India, HMSI, In addition, the event provided the right exposure to the new Tier 1 suppliers who do not have their presence in Gujarat yet.
In a bid to create a robust supply chain and an independent ecosystem in Gujarat, ACMA – Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India has organised Value Chain Summit in Ahmedabad.
Despite Gujarat being home to India’s largest passenger carmaker – Maruti Suzuki, the largest two-wheeler manufacturer – Hero MotoCorp, Tata Motors, Ford India and Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India, to name a few, the State is facing several challenges including lack of an adequate ecosystem of component suppliers to match the planned production capacities and the rate of planned growth. The event was organised by connecting the OEMs and suppliers.
From the value chain perspective, the event attempted to bring the Tier 2 suppliers who are present and not present in Gujarat to understand the opportunities. Accordingly, the exhibition was classified in to five zones; Tier 1 companies present in Gujarat; Tier 1 companies that are willing to set up shop in the State; Tier 2 companies present here; Tier 2 companies that are looking forward to creating manufacturing facilities and special zone for service provides of land, labour etc.
The event also addressed the challenges that the automotive industry had been currently facing in Gujarat — in terms of non-availability of the skilled workforce, logistics etc.
