Hyundai Motor India has said that its state-of-the-art manufacturing plant at Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu is ‘Future Ready’ with Futuristic Technologies to meet the safety and emission norms well in advance before its mandatory implementation in 2019. The Hyundai plant has achieved the milestone of becoming the fastest Indian Automobile manufacturer to roll out eight million in the short span of 19 years and nine months. The plant is spread across a total area of 535 acres and along with advanced manufacturing 4.0 production equipped with over 590 -Generation 4 Robots, Quality and Testing Capabilities along with Flexible Engine Plants to cater for India as well as global market.
Currently, the plant is running at almost 100 percent capacity utilisation, and it will be enhanced through Value Engineering from 7.13 lakh units to 7.50 units in 2019 without any future investment. By the first quarter of 2021, the company hopes to cross cumulative production of 10 million cars. Keeping up with the India Government’s vision to bring Electric Vehicles in India, the Hyundai Smart Plant is gearing up to produce electric vehicles in India. Equipped to meet the BS VI technology, car and pedestrian safety norms along with Airbags and Anti-Lock Braking System as standard in all models.
“Our journey in India started with SANTRO equipped with Multi-Fuel Injection and Bharat Stage ll technologies, the first in the industry and today through our Smart and Value engineering we have been producing the most Iconic and awarded cars from our plant. Hyundai has implemented Smart Manufacturing 4.0 practices with a focus on Digitalisation, Big Data and Data Analytics to produce superior and Zero Defect Cars with Robust and FooI-Proof Quality Checks and Assurance Systems. At our plant, the seamless synergy between human intelligence and precision of machine is a combination of science and arts to create the finest cars that are loved by the customers across the world,” said Y K Koo, MD & CEO, Hyundai Motor India.
He added that that the company targets 8-10 percent growth in 2018.
“Recently, we have started exporting Complete Knock Down (CKD) kits to several markets including Vietnam and the Philippines because the tariff in those markets for Completely build Units (CBU) have been substantially increased. The company can export upto 50,000 CKD units per year. To that extent, the production capacity in the plant can be utilised to cater to the domestic demand,” Koo further said.
The digitalised operations at the Hyundai Smart Plant captures over 1.2 Billion Data paints across the manufacturing processes to gain insights to Prevent and Preempt Errors for producing Zero Detect Vehicles and ensuring Plant Safety. The Global body build line has 10O percent Weld Automation along with the flexibility to produce 5 models in a single line.
The plant has four ponds spread across 15 Acres for rain water harvesting. As a part of the Energy Conservation initiative, it has installed LED Retrofit Bulbs that have not only brought down the energy consumption but have saved the plant over Rs 13 crore per year in electricity cost.
