Marking the World Environment Day celebrations, JK Fenner group dedicated the toilet facilities for girl students at the government run schools aiming at promoting proper hygiene at the right age. As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility program, the company had allocated Rs 30 lakhs for FY 2014-15 to construct toilets for girls in 12 government run schools in Sriperumbudur, Madurai and Hyderabad. The overall objective of the project is to provide sustainable sanitation solution / services to the select government run schools.
India faces a massive problem of open defecation, and this is mostly prevalent among the children who are already most vulnerable and marginalized. These children pay the highest price with respect to their survival and development. Absence of proper sanitation results in people suffering from various contagious and water borne diseases leading to high incidences of morbidity and mortality. Girls are the most affected and lack of proper and appropriate sanitation results in high rates of school dropouts.
Speaking at the dedication ceremony, Srirama said “Education is the fundamental right of every child, we at JK Fenner are privileged to be part of furthering the cause of education especially among girl children. JK Fenner is committed to such social upliftment initiatives. It is our endeavour to support the development of areas where our plants are situated. We hope this small step of toilets for girls in government run schools in this area goes a long way in the overall development of the area. JK Fenner has also been supporting the cause of education through its ‘Single Teacher’ schools”.
