Tesla breaks ground for China factory

Electric car maker Tesla has broken ground at a new factory in Shanghai, China. It is the US-based electric carmaker’s first manufacturing plant outside the United States.

The facility will produce Model 3 and Model Y cars as it pushes to grow its presence in the world’s largest car market, media reports said.

“Shanghai Giga will produce affordable versions of 3/Y for greater China. All Model S/X & higher cost versions of Model 3/Y will still be built in US for WW market, incl China. Shanghai Giga production of Model 3/Y will serve greater China region,” tweeted Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

“Aiming to finish initial construction this summer, start Model 3 production end of year & reach high volume production next year,” his another tweet said.

According to reports, the $5 billion factory would start Model 3 production at the end of 2019.
