Tom Thomas, Executive Director, Technology and Projects, CEAT Tyres, will be the new Chairman of Asian Tyre and Rubber Conference (ATRC), the ABM initiative organized by Tyre Asia magazine. With Tom, a tyre industry veteran, at the helm, the preparations for ATRC 2019 has gained further momentum. Tom comes in place of Late Zachariah George, who chaired the Organising Committee in the past four editions. The biennial ATRC is today Asia’s largest conference on tyre manufacturing technology.
A highly respected veteran with over 40 years of experience in the Indian tyre industry and one of the pioneering figures in the radial tyre revolution in the country, Tom Thomas has made his mark as a remarkable leader. He was
associated with the introduction of passenger radial technology in India by JK Tyres in 1977 and was responsible to set up the first all-steel truck/bus radial facility at Mysore in 1999. Tom has held positions like Chairman of Indian Tyre Technical Advisory Committee, Member of Indian Rubber Institute, Governing Council Member of Indian Rubber Manufacturer’s Research Association, Member of Academic Council of the University of Cochin, and also guest faculty of various colleges.
Before joining CEAT in 2001, he was with Apollo Tyres for 17 years and was the leading member of the team who set up Apollo’s Baroda plant. Tom was heading their R&D/ Technology dept. Since 2001 he has been working in CEAT Tyres, the flagship company of the $3 billion RPG Group as Executive Director (Technology &Projects). CEAT has regained its product leadership position in various verticals and is on its march towards business leadership.
Under Tom’s leadership, CEAT has established a world-class radial tyre manufacturing facility and a state-of-the-art research and development centre at Halol, Baroda.
Preparations are in full swing for ATRC 2019, which will be held in Chennai, India on June 13-14, 2019. The theme of the conference is “Automation Technology – Future Reality in Manufacturing.” The line-up of speakers from across the world is getting ready.
